I would pay 30% of my salary and that is all. Right now I am paying 75% between IRS and social security and I will not have a retirement plan. Don’t ask me more than humanly possible.

Food supply emergencies in remote locations

 

 

Charities and remote villages. We have “Banco da fome” (bank for hunger) that delivers food to the majority of charities and Portuguese people nowadays; they need to have a big stock because they send ton of food to these charities and people every day.

 

 

Remote villages also need it in case transportation is cut and they remain alone and without communication with the rest of the country.

Corporate responsibility in prison

 

Why not go visit people in prison and offer some of them with business coaching for when they come out?

Main issues in diabetes treatment in rural areas?

 

 

 

 

The main issues I am faced with are: illiteracy; no knowledge of what diabetes is; what the risk factors, risk habits and major organs affected are; how to measure blood glucose levels.

 

 

We started by a physical evaluation of each patient that joined the project; next we taught about food habits (food to be avoided, how many meals/day,) and the “diabetes paradox”: hyperglycemia. Most diabetics do not understand this.

 

 

We also talked about diabetic ketoacidosis vs. hyperglycemia.

We expound on the Diabetic foot, and how to prevent an ingrown toenail, and explained which the 4 major organs that diabetes can damage are (Heart, Eyes, Kidney, and Feet).

We elucidated on Diabetes mellitus; differences of Type 1 diabetes; Type 2 diabetes; Gestational diabetes. We clarified what Glucose levels in plasma, vs. glucose measurements in blood are.

 

 

We described the medication for each type and we taught people to measure blood sugar levels with a vast collection of home blood glucose level testing kits (measuring devices and strips).

I ordered some new measuring devices that have sound, “they talk” and are precious to illiterate people (in Portugal all the glucose meters are free).

 

 

 

 

 

Research question: if you were in Portugal I would say, research on new types of medicine associations’ or a research on all available glucose meters and main  differences (test strips; coding ; volume of blood sample; testing times; display; clock/memory and data transfer);                      there are so many people not knowing how to work with them; some are really complicated.

 

In networking, what is more important, getting to know someone professionally or personally?

 

 

I need to know something about the person to better connect, so I need to know her personally too, not just professionally because there may be features in personal life that are responsible for features in the professional life.

In airports, searching a turban or a nun’s dress is it discrimination?

 

 

 

I think when you are talking safety on the airplane and airports you don’t offend any religion if you search the person, after all anyone can disguise themselves as nuns or with turbans exactly to expect different treatment.

 

Cool Hotel stories

 

 

Once in NY I was looking for one more blanket and I took the lift and had to stop in every floor to see if I could find one. It turned out that the passengers in the lift kept seeing me in and out of the elevator and decided I was the hotel manager and started asking me all sorts of questions about the hotel and I had to pretend I knew the answers until I found my blanket.
